Academy Update: April 4
The FC Dallas Academy teams came away with two valuable victories in USSDA Texas Division play against Lonestar SC last Saturday. The U-16s earned a 3-0 shutout victory to leapfrog their opponents in the divisional standings, and the U-18s won 2-1 to give themselves a two-point lead for first place in the Texas Division.
The first game saw the U-18s take the pitch at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon on Field 4 at Pizza Hut Park. FC Dallas took the lead in the 36th minute off a goal from forward Victor Pinal. Playing with the lead to start the second half, FCD struck again in the 60th minute to double their lead thanks to a goal by midfielder Jose Perez.
Lonestar SC’s Joshua Seger answered with a goal of his own in the 66th minute to cut the lead in half, but Perez’s brace would prove to be the game-winner for the U-18s. The FC Dallas U-18s currently sit in first place in the Texas Division, two points ahead of last weekend’s opponent, Lonestar SC.
Also two points ahead of Lonestar SC in the Texas Division standings is the FC Dallas U-16 Academy team, who took to Field 4 following the U-18 matchup Saturday afternoon. FCD took the lead in the 38th minute off a goal by forward Bobby Edet.
The Dallas squad would gain more offensive ground thanks to forward Erick Chapa, who subbed on in the 61st minute for midfielder Victor Portillo. Chapa scored an insurance goal for FC Dallas in the 68th minute, and sealed the decision in the 80th minute with a brace to give his side the 3-0 victory.
The next scheduled action for the FC Dallas Academy teams will be the opening day of Dallas Cup on Sunday, April 17. The U-16s will play Costa Rican side Barrio Mexico at 10:30 Sunday morning. The U-18s will then face FC Barcelona as part of the Gordon Jago Super Group on the Pizza Hut Park Stadium Field at 3:30 p.m.
