Academy Update: May 3
Following a largely successful week at Dallas Cup XXXII that saw FC Dallas Academy teams go a combined 5-2-0, the squads returned to Development Academy league play this weekend as they faced Texas Division rivals Dallas Texans Saturday afternoon.

The U-18s opened up the day with a 1-1 draw against the Texans’ U-18 side.  Midfielder Daniel Garcia gave FCD the 1-0 lead in the first half, but the opponents tied the game with two minutes to go in regulation off a penalty kick from defender Jacob VanCompernolle.  The U-18s currently sit in second place in the Texas Division behind Lonestar SC, although they have two games in hand over the first place club.

The U-16s followed up the draw with a 2-0 shutout over the Texans’ U-16s.  FCD wasted little time establishing the lead in the match, as midfielder Marco Ortiz tallied in the third minute.  The insurance goal was scored by starting forward Bobby Edet in the 61st.  The U-16s now sit in fifth place in the Texas Division, just two points behind their Houston Dynamo counterparts.  The team is also currently in eighth place in the Wild Card Race.

The FC Dallas U-18s and U-16s travel south this weekend to face the Houston Dynamo Academy sides with just six games remaining in the Development Academy season. Both sides are trying to qualify for the USSF Development Academy League playoffs, scheduled to take place at Pizza Hut Park June 24-28.
