FC Dallas to field team in Women’s Premier Soccer League

Tryouts set to begin on Saturday, April 16

FRISCO, Texas (April 15, 2011) – In a move designed to strengthen the development of female soccer players in North Texas, Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas has established a team that will play in the Big Sky Conference of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL).

FC Dallas youth coach Darrin Hedges will serve as head coach of the team. Open to high school seniors and above, tryouts are set to begin this Saturday, April 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Greenhill School in Addison, Texas. Additional tryout dates at Greenhill School are set for Sunday, April 17 (7 – 9 p.m.), Wednesday, April 20 (7:30 – 9 p.m.) and Saturday, April 23 (7 – 9 p.m.).

“This is another way for FC Dallas to continue broadening opportunities for players of the highest quality,” FC Dallas Director of Coaching Chris Hayden said. “The WPSL is a strong national league. It has been a great way for college players to get significant experience for a number of years.”

The Big Sky Conference will feature 12 teams in a two-division format (North and South) with the division winners facing off for the right to compete in the 2011 WPSL National Championship. FC Dallas will play in the South Division, which also consists of the American Eagles S.C., Arkansas Comets, Fort Worth Panthers, Houston South Select, Oklahoma Alliance F.C. and the Tulsa Spirit.

FC Dallas opens its season on Sunday, May 15 against American Eagles S.C. at the University of Dallas-Irving. The team’s home-opener is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 at 7 p.m. The FC Dallas WPSL team will play six home games on Field 2 at Pizza Hut Park.

About the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL)

The WPSL is a 60-plus team national league for the summer 2011 season competing in five conferences and is the largest women's soccer league in the world. The league is sanctioned by the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) as an affiliate of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
